Vision: The Sausalito-Marin City area is blessed with beautiful natural surroundings and spectacular skies. A sunrise (Sausalito entrance) to sunset (Marin City entrance) color spectrum reflects what we see every day. The color concept that underlays the handprint design seeks to express the unity between the two adjacent communities. The lightest and brightest portion of the background colors will be in the center, at what was the darkest point in the tunnel. The mission of the project is to symbolize and make real the connection between two historic Marin County communities, and celebrate the desegregated Sausalito Marin City School District. Every day, those who move through the tunnel on foot, bicycle, or car will see an art installation that reaffirms and demonstrates to our young people that their future is in working together toward shared goals.
